About True North Broadband
True North Broadband provides telephone and high-speed internet throughout Cook County with a fiber-to-the-home network. This service from Arrowhead Cooperative is the only full-fiber broadband internet service in our area, with speeds from 100 Mbps to 1 Gig available. For over 60 years, Arrowhead Electric Cooperative has been providing safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly utility services to the community. Now True North Broadband offers high-speed technology, continuing our vision of “Connecting the Tip of the Arrowhead.”
About the Project
In 2010, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) awarded Arrowhead Cooperative over $16 million in grants and low interest loans to build a fiber-to-the-home broadband network throughout Cook County. This USDA funding was provided by the Broadband Initiatives Program through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. In addition, Cook County awarded Arrowhead Cooperative a $4 million grant from the 1% sales tax fund.
The project was completed in 2015 with over 800 miles of fiber stretching from the edge of Lake County to the tip of the Gunflint Trail and the Canadian border.
800 miles of fiber
The project connected our beautiful, serene, and remote community to the rest of the global community in a way that has not been possible before.
